...are available to children and adults on an inpatient and outpatient basis, as part of Carthage Area Hospital's comprehensive rehabilitation program.
A speech-language pathologist can play an important part in recovery from a stroke, traumatic brain injury or other neurological deficit. With a referral from your physician, a certified speech-language pathologist evaluates and treats children and adults who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties.
Services include:
Assessment and treatment of motor speech, fluency and voicing. For example: language delay or difficulty pronouncing words in children,and problems with understanding and using language, including those associated with dementia or as an aftermath of a stroke or injury.
Administration and interpretation of swallow and modified barium swallow studies and follow-up treatment that focuses on modifying the diet and compensating for swallowing problems.
