New Visitation Guidelines

To Protect Patients from Flu & Other Infectious Diseases

New visitation guidelines are being implemented at Carthage Area Hospital to further protect patients from influenza and other infectious diseases.

Patient units of Carthage Area Hospital, including the Skilled Nursing Unit and Critical Care Unit, will restrict visits as follows:
No children under 18 years of age.
Immediate family only.
Any visitor with respiratory symptoms (fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath), a rash or diarrhea is requested NOT to visit.
Only 2 visitors will be permitted in a patient's room at one time.
Visitors are asked to sign in at the switchboard or the patient information desk in the main lobby to obtain a visitor's pass.
Laboring mother's visitors need to be restricted to only one person.

Hand Washing
The hospital is also urging all visitors to use hand-washing stations before entering and upon leaving a patient's room. Hand sanitizers are available at hospital entrances and at many other locations throughout the facility.

The restrictions are being implemented as recommended by the NYS Department of Health. The Department of Health is reporting that the H1N1 virus is now widespread across the state.

CAH is experiencing a significant increase in patients presenting in the Emergency Department with respiratory and/or influenza-like symptoms. These temporary restrictions are intended to help limit the transmission of the virus and protect the health and safety of patients and the professionals who provide their care during the outbreak. Exceptions will be made based on the needs of the patient and health screenings of any children visitors.

Thank you for your cooperation!
