Carthage Area Hospital is proud to have on its staff certified lymphedema therapists to assist patients in their management of this devastating condition. Although there is no cure for lymphedema, successful management of the condition is possible through complete decongestive therapy (CDT). Provided by certified therapists, CDT is considered the gold standard for lymphedema management.
The intensive phase of CDT consists of five main areas:
1. skin and nail care
2. manual lymph drainage
3. compression bandaging
4. exercise
5. self-care instructions
It is exciting to be able to offer such a specialized treatment to the people of our community who previously had to travel to Syracuse or Utica.
